As part of my B1 progression unit, I have built a portfolio that demonstrates my strongest pieces of work from my college course and my exploration into 2d drawings for tattoo design.
After college, i have decided to progress into a tattoo apprenticeship and this is the beginning of my exploration before building a strong and more targeted portfolio for tattoo design.
College Work
Music illustration project:
Staffordshire University gave us a brief to create a poster for any band or song of our choice. I chose to use “A Bullet with Butterfly Wings” by The Smashing Pumpkins.
I also decided to create a vinyl and sleeve for the song as an extra piece of work for the project.
Experimenting with mono print:
Dry point printing:
Dry point printing is a very effective way to create 2D line work designs in a medium different to pencil or pen. It uses ink and etching tools to create an outcome similar to traditional 2D mediums.
I think dry point created outcomes that remind me of tattoo stencilling and line work and could be an interesting way to explore tattoo design.

For my final piece, i decided to take “dysmorphia” down a more problematic route using themes of body dysmorphia.
This collage represents beauty standards portrayed in the media and the need to work out and stay thin that is pushed on women and young people. I wanted to create a piece of work that makes people think about these issues and how important it is to make changes for the sake of mental health.

These four portraits are part of a mini project i set myself during summer 2023. I wanted to push the boundaries of vivid colour and use colour to express how i see my friends and family members in the photos that these are drawn from.
These are the pieces i am most proud of in my portfolio as they show a different side to the other works demonstrated here and i have challenged myself.
